Prep
By listening to sounds, students will complete a task where the will sort sounds into high or low, and loud and soft. They will also learn a First Nations song and listen for the story and instruments used within it.
Grade 1 and 2
Students in Grade 1 will begin to create their own rhythmic arrangement using the rhythms we have been focusing on in class this term. They will also listen and identify, and play low and high sounds as they explore the idea of pitch. Students in Grade 2 will learn techniques for playing tuned percussion instruments. They will also further develop their understanding of ostinato (a repeated musical phrase) by playing single note ostinati.
Grad 3 and 4
Students will continue to practise the chords they have learnt on the ukulele so far. They will play along to songs to help practise transitioning between chords. Students will also complete a task where they label the parts of a ukulele and create a design on the ukulele to showcase their understanding of the cultural significance of the instrument.
Grade 5 and 6
Students will work on their composition in the treble staff, rehearse it on an instrument and prepare to perform it to the class.
*Artwork created in Terms 1, 2 and 3 by all year levels, will be collected and stored at school until our artshow later in the year (excluding a gift from each child for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day).
Prep
Students will read together Sally Morgan’s book ‘River’ and talk about the Yarra River and its importance in our community. They will then practise their cutting skills and collage a fish skeleton using painted paper.
Grade 1 – 6
Students will be creating an Anzac day poppy, and will contribute to a collaborative wreath that each year level will present at our ceremony in early Term 2.
Prep
Prep students will begin to explore the signs for the colours of the rainbow. They will participate in a game and colouring task that focuses primarily on the signs for the colours: red; orange and yellow.
Grade 1 and 2
Students have been learning the signs for the various members of their family. This week students will revise the signs for grandma and grandpa and be taught the signs for 'aunty' and 'uncle.’ They will practice signing how many aunties and uncles they have in their family.
Grade 3 to 6
Students have been exploring the formation of a sign using the 5 elements: handshape; orientation; location; movement and expression. They will consolidate the application of this knowledge through participating in various games and interactive activities.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will interact with a range of simple toys to explore how the forces of push an pull can start, stop or change the direction of an object. They will then build a simple toy of their own to demonstrate pushing and pulling.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will begin to investigate the force of buoyancy through a range of hands on investigations. They will then design and build a simple boat to test how much weight it can hold before sinking.
Grade 5 & 6:
Students have been learning about simple electric circuits. This week, they will be building real circuits with light globes, motors and switches.
