Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 1

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.

NAPLAN

Our Grade 3 students will be completing their final NAPLAN test on Tuesday.

🌱 LITERACY

Our mentor text for this week, 'The Boy Who Tried To Shrink His Name',  has been selected to support Harmony Week. Students will read this text throughout the week with their fluency pair. Using this text as inspiration, they will be engaged in a selection of activities throughout the week, including building their vocabulary knowledge and making connections from the text to their own life.

In Writing, students will explore the process of creating their own stories, from planning and drafting to publishing a final piece. We will guide them in developing a well-rounded character using the STACKS method (Size, Texture, Age, Colour, Kind, Sense) to bring their ideas to life. Students will also be introduced to different planning techniques to help organise their thoughts before they begin writing. Through this process, they will build confidence in their storytelling skills and creativity.

You can support your child at home by reading favourite stories with your child and noticing key elements of the story, such as the problem, how the problem is solved and interesting words used by the author. You might like to ask them about the story they are working on in class, and prompt them to tell you about the orientation (beginning), problem (middle) and resolution (end).

🌱 NUMERACY

This week, students will wrap up their learning on Place Value by reviewing key concepts such as using number lines, ordering numbers, and renaming numbers in different ways. This review will help reinforce their understanding and ensure they feel confident in applying these skills. Following this, students will begin exploring 2D and 3D shapes through hands-on activities and discussions, building their understanding of different shapes and their properties.

You can support your child by noticing different shapes in the world around them. You can ask them questions such as 'what do we call that shape, how many sides/faces does that shape have?'

🌱 CBL

This week, we will focus on the Guiding Question 'How do we connect with others?'

In their assigned CBL groups, students will complete some group challenges, where they will be required to work collaboratively with their peers. They will be prompted to reflect on strategies they used which enabled them to work effectively as part of their group.

Towards the end of the week, we will begin to move to our final Guiding Question 'How do we connect with the wider community?'

You can support your child at home by asking them about the challenges they participated in during CBL and what their assigned role in their group is. You might also like to discuss some of the local community groups which you are connected to.

Wellbeing

This week, we will be looking at 'friendship fires' in our wellbeing session. Students will be prompted to think about friendship fires they have had, and how we can proactively take steps to make a friendship fire smaller. We will consider that no friendship is perfect, and that part of being a great friend is learning to relate in a manner which reduces conflict with ot

Cross Country Preparation

As the weather (hopefully) begins to cool down, we will giving opportunity for children to practice running for our upcoming Whole School Cross Country. With this in mind, we ask that you ensure your child comes to school with appropriate footwear.
