Whole School Litter Audit
A couple of weeks ago on a hot Friday afternoon, the whole school participated in a litter audit of our school grounds. Even though our school grounds appear litter free most of the time, the students were surprised at the amount of litter that they found. The most common litter found was soft plastics. It was often found amongst the long grass on the fence line.
As the school has no litter bins in the yard, and students take plastic wrappers home, it was quite mysterious as to how it was found in the yard.
After anylysing the results, the students came up with several suggestions on how to reduce litter. A common theme was to encourage nude food lunches and snacks.
Overall, we only collected a few bags of litter which was great, as a litter collection had not been done for several years. Next week, we will be undertaking a waste audit.
