GSSC Expo showcases what makes us great

What a fantastic evening we had at the GSSC Expo on Thursday, March 6, with around 150 people joining us for a night of food, fun, entertainment and a showcase of all that GSSC has to offer.
This is the second year we’ve hosted the event in this format, following on from the success of last year’s Expo which provided an opportunity for new and existing families to visit our school.
This year we had a range of booths for families to check out, including:
- our First Nations and Multicultural booths, demonstrating the expansive cultural supports available to our students
- our Wellbeing booth outlining the diverse supports available in this space - from our dedicated wellbeing staff, to Mental Health Practitioners, Doctors in Schools program and paediatric clinic - just to name a few
- our admin booth where staff were available to assist with all things camps and excursions, updating your details, the purchase of padlocks for lockers and much more.
- Our Compass booth offered families a place to go if they wanted a quick and easy training in all things Compass, or a refresher on how to access their child’s assessments and reports and how to keep-up-to-date with the latest GSSC news and information
- Staff were available to chat through the alternative programs offered at GSSC, including our Nurtja and Hands on Learning programs;
- And, for those new to secondary education, our Year 7 booth was set up for families to connect with key staff and ask any questions they may have
This was just a snapshot of what was on offer at the Expo, in addition to the many giveaways and prizes handed out on the night.
In our Dharnya neighbourhood we also had a number of displays in our classrooms, showcasing the wonderful work happening in our core and elective classes. This provided an opportunity for families to take a self-guided tour of our neighbourhood, and chat to our teaching staff to find out more about what their child has been working on. Guided tours, were also offered in our Biyala and Bayuna neighbourhoods.
It was great to see staff, students and families connecting over a BBQ dinner and enjoying the fantastic entertainment provided by our GSSC Music and Dance students.
Many thanks to our dedicated student leaders who volunteered their time to assist at the expo, from meeting and greeting families, to guiding them around the campus and taking tours.
It was also wonderful to have external services on hand, including Latrobe and Melbourne Universities and GO TAFE who provide invaluable support to GSSC and our students all year round, opening up so many opportunities for our young people to explore their career and pathway options.
Many thanks to the Rotary Club who assisted with the free BBQ dinner and to GV Water for the donation of their hydration station.
There were also so many staff who made the night possible, which is also a reflection of the many passionate and dedicated staff members we are lucky to have at GSSC supporting our students.
Thank you to all those who made the trip out to celebrate with us. At GSSC our ethos is that we are greater together – that is our staff, our families and our community working together for the benefit of our young people. The Expo certainly was a reflection of that ethos, and we thank our families and community for their continued support and openness to work together and make this a great place to learn, work and build lifelong friendships and memories together.
