Beginning of the Year Mass
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our beginning of the year liturgy. It was beautiful to see the Prep buddy blessing and welcome our new little friends into the school community.
Shrove Tuesday
The whole school made pancakes as part of our Catholic Tradition of celebrating Shrove Tuesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and were able to learn about the tradition of using up “rich” (or indulgent) ingredients prior to beginning Lent where traditionally Catholics have fasted for the forty days of lent. Today we observe Lent in other ways – maybe reducing or withholding from a special treat or taking up a new habit such as daily prayer, kind gestures or mindfulness.
Ash Wednesday
Yesterday we began the season of Lent as our Grade 3-6 students attended Ash Wednesday Mass with Father Andrew and received the ash blessing. The students were really engaged in the liturgy and attended with reverence and respect. The students in Year 1 and 2 had their own prayer gathering at the school where they also received an ash blessing and watched a story about saying sorry. During Lent we encourage everyone to think about times they have made mistakes and how they can seek forgiveness from God.
Prayer Gathering
We begin our Prayer Gatherings in the church tomorrow morning at 9am. Grade 6 will be leading us. Grade 1 will lead us the following week. All welcome
Sacramental meeting
Next Thursday afternoon and evening we will be having our parent meeting for families who would like their children to undertake the sacramental program this year (Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation). Notes about this went home two weeks ago but if you require another one please let the office know.
Project Compassion Boxes
Coming home today with each family is a Project Compassion box. We will ask for the boxes to be returned with your family donations in either the last week of term or the first week back. If you google Project Compassion you will be able to see all of the amazing work this project funds.
