Principal's Report

Refreshing Our Junior School Council (JSC)
We are excited to announce the refresh of our Junior School Council (JSC) at Macedon Primary School! This updated approach will give students a greater voice in decision-making, strengthen leadership opportunities, and ensure that student-led initiatives make a real impact on our school community.
Each class will elect one representative and one emergency representative to serve on the council for the year. To give more students the chance to participate, once a student has been a JSC representative, they cannot be elected again until Grade 6. Our Grade 6 Leaders will take on an enhanced role in guiding discussions and helping to run meetings.
The refreshed JSC will:
- Empower students to contribute ideas and shape school activities.
- Provide leadership opportunities for all year levels.
- Strengthen student involvement in fundraising and school initiatives.
- Ensure a structured, student-led approach to meetings and decision-making.
Teachers will support the JSC by helping representatives gather input from their classmates and report back after meetings. The JSC’s discussions and initiatives will also be shared with school leadership, ensuring that student perspectives influence school improvements.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact of our refreshed Junior School Council and encourage all students to take part in this exciting opportunity.
Celebrating 150 Years – Fete Preparations Underway!
Preparations are well underway for our 150th Fete, which will take place this November. The organising team is busy creating a fantastic event that will not only bring our community together but also celebrate 150 years of Macedon Primary School.
As part of the celebrations, there will be a range of activities highlighting life in the past, giving everyone a chance to step back in time and experience the history of our school.
To help make this event a success, we are currently seeking donations of goods and services for our silent auction, as well as possible raffle prizes. If you or someone you know can assist, please email me at Andrew.bloomfield@education.vic.gov.au, and I will pass your details on to the organising committee.
Help Shape Our SWPBS Matrix
As part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) journey at Macedon Primary School, we are working to identify unwanted behaviours that occur across the school. By understanding when and where these behaviours happen, we can create a clear framework to support positive behaviour and improve the school experience for everyone.
To help with this, we are asking parents, staff, and students to complete a Google Form for each time unwanted behaviour they have observed. The form will ask:
- Where the behaviour took place
- What the behaviour was
- What a positive replacement behaviour should be
Your input will be invaluable in helping us develop our SWPBS Matrix, which will guide our expectations and support a positive and respectful school environment.

Mental Health in Primary Schools Initiative - Sue Irwin
Hi I am Sue and I am excited to work in the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing at Macedon Primary School in 2025.
I have over 25 years of experience as a teacher, including experience in a school for students with additional needs. This helped develop my understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of diverse learners. My personal and professional experience has given me valuable insight into the importance of creating accessible, supportive spaces for all learners where, mental health is prioritised, and teachers’ students and families are supported to build capacity to support well-being so that everyone has opportunity to thrive.
With the support of the wellbeing team my goal is to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of our entire school community by implementing a whole school approach to wellbeing.
In my spare time I am a wife and the mum to three beautiful teenagers. I also enjoy spending time in nature, walking, bike riding, and gardening.
NAPLAN 2025
NAPLAN is off to a great start at Macedon Primary School, with our students putting in a fantastic effort. They have now completed their Writing and Reading assessments, demonstrating resilience and focus throughout the process.
Next, students will sit their Conventions of Language assessment on Friday, followed by Numeracy on Monday. We are proud of their hard work so far and encourage them to keep up their positive mindset as they complete the remaining tests.
Hoodies Now Available
We’re excited to announce that our new Macedon Primary School hoodies are now available in-store at Beleza.
Last year, School Council approved the introduction of a school hoodie for students, and we’re pleased to see it now available for purchase. Please note that while the hoodies can be bought in-store, they are not yet available on Beleza’s website.
For those interested, head into Beleza to check them out and grab one for the cooler months ahead.
Review update
Yesterday, we completed our Fieldwork Day as part of our school review process. It was an opportunity for the review panel to gain insights into our school from multiple perspectives.
Throughout the day, the panel engaged with different members of our school community. They spoke with a group of parents who volunteered to share their thoughts and experiences. Students also had the opportunity to meet with the panel and express their views about their learning and school environment. Staff were interviewed to discuss school procedures and processes, while the panel also observed school planning sessions to see how teachers cater for the diverse needs of students in the classroom.
Next Wednesday will be the final day of the review, where the reviewer will present their recommendations for our school. The panel will then collaborate to set our strategic goals for the next four years.
Extreme Fire Rating Day - Saturday
It looks like Saturday will be an Extreme Fire Rating Day. Our school site will be closed as a result.
Warm regards,
