Subject: Language   

Year 3 and Year 4 

This term, the Year Three and Year Four students in the Chinese Innovation class will explore the traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year. They will learn about the symbolic meanings behind key customs, such as red envelopes, dragon dances, and family reunion dinners while deepening their understanding through engaging storytelling sessions. To further enhance their cultural experience, hands-on tasks like paper cutting and lantern-making will be incorporated. These learning experiences will foster creativity and provide students with a fun and immersive way to connect with Chinese New Year traditions.  

Year 5 and Year 6 

The Year Five and Year Six students in the Chinese Innovation class will dive deeper into Chinese New Year traditions and celebrations by exploring their historical and cultural significance. They will broaden their knowledge of Chinese New Year through focused lessons on festive vocabulary, idioms, and phrases while examining traditional stories such as the legend of Nian. Additionally, they will participate in creative projects like crafting festive decorations. These learning activities will offer students a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience, developing both cultural appreciation and a deeper understanding of the Chinese language.  

 

 

 

Subject: Sport Innovation  

Year 5 and 6  

The Cricket Sports Innovation program in Term 1 for Year 5 and 6 students is an exciting opportunity to learn and refine skills within the dynamic sport of cricket. Through a variety of skill-building tasks, challenges, and match simulations, students will explore key aspects of the game, including batting techniques, bowling styles, fielding, and wicketkeeping. Students will also learn to develop strategic approaches, such as setting up fielding positions, running between wickets effectively, and building partnerships during gameplay. Our program places a strong emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship, encouraging students to communicate effectively and demonstrate respect for both teammates and opponents. In addition to technical skills, students will work on their decision-making abilities and tactical thinking, enhancing their overall understanding of the game. By the end of the term, students will have developed a comprehensive skill set in cricket, gaining experience in various roles and refining their abilities during competitive matches. They will also build confidence, improve their physical fitness, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with playing as part of a team.  

We are looking forward to an engaging and active term where students can embrace the challenges and joys of cricket, all while fostering a love for the game and building lasting friendships.  

Subject: Music Innovation  

Year 5 and 6  

This term in Music Innovation twenty year 5 and 6 students will be undertaking a unit on ensemble playing. Students will improve their counting and rhythm skills along with their listening and beat keeping skills. They will learn multiple songs individually before coming together to learn to play as a small ensemble. When learning these songs students will focus on using correct technique for their instrument, playing the correct rhythm and playing the correct notes in tune. During times the students are playing as an ensemble each student will transfer their prior knowledge of beat, counting, rhythm and will use their listening skills to ensure they are playing in time with other students and instruments.  

 

Subject: Art Innovation  

Year 3 

This term, students will explore the rich cultural significance of masks from various cultures around the world. They will learn how different cultures use masks in ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations, while also examining the materials, techniques, and visual conventions used in their creation. Students will explore a variety of masks, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, as well as Chinese and Indian traditions. They will experiment with a range of materials such as clay, paper mache, and fabric to design and create their own unique masks. Throughout this process, students will develop their understanding of how visual arts practices and materials can communicate meaning and ideas. By the end of the unit, students will present their masks, explaining the cultural significance behind their design choices and the creative process they followed. This project will not only enhance their artistic skills but also foster a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways visual arts are used across cultures to tell stories and convey important messages.
