Robotics

Year level: 1
This term, Year 1 Robotics Innovation students will explore the robotic devices available at Glen Waverley Primary School. Students will first begin with the Beebots, extending their knowledge from the Foundation years. Spheros will then be introduced, and students will learn to make their Sphero move using a Draw Canvas. This is like a blank screen where students can ‘draw’ the path for their Sphero to follow! They will learn how to adjust speed, change light colours and manoeuvre the Sphero in ‘driving’ mode. After this, Dash robots will also be introduced. Students will experience a variety of Dash apps to build their skills in driving the Dash as well as being introduced to basic block coding. Students will be challenged along the way by creating different obstacle courses, mazes, and catapulting balls to knock over towers made from cups!
Year level: 2
This term, Year 2 Robotics Innovation students will explore a new set of coding equipment called Botzees. These robotic kits contain a central hub and building blocks that allows for a variety of robots to be built. Students will work together to create their Botzees, then experiment using their Botzee on a series of missions to develop their block coding skills. Students will learn about different motors, and how to control the Botzee with different commands, sounds and music. A series of games and challenges will keep the students engaged, whilst building their coding and collaboration skills.
Year level: 3
This semester, students in Year 5 Robotics Innovation will explore the use of the Lego Education Spike Prime robotic kits. Students will work in a partnership to collaborate, problem solve and build a series of robotic projects. Innovator’s will have the chance to upskill their block coding skills through a series of workshops aimed at introducing new concepts such the use of motors, an electronic hub, a colour sensor, distance sensor and a gyro sensor. Towards the end of the unit, students will indulge in an Inquiry build of their own, collaborating to create a build that could help someone in the real world!
Year level: 6
This semester, students in Year 6 Robotics Innovation will explore the use of the Lego Education Spike Prime robotic kits.
