YEAR 5

FROM THE CLASSROOM

Our Year 5 students have been working hard across all areas of learning this week.

In Mathematics, students have continued to build their knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages. They have been learning to compare and convert different amounts, as well as add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators.

In Writing, students have been introduced to our new Talk for Writing text, 'Should Goldilocks Be Jailed?' This discussion text encourages students to consider different perspectives and build persuasive arguments. An engaging hook drew students into the text, and they have begun creating a text map to help them learn, remember and retell it.

In Reading, we have started exploring our new mentor text, 'Six Dots: A Story of Young Louis Braille'. Through this inspiring story, students have been developing their understanding of new vocabulary, making connections, drawing inferences and identifying the main idea. Students have also been practising their summarising skills to identify and communicate the most important information from the text.

In Inquiry, students have begun planning for our upcoming Business Innovation Day. Working collaboratively, students are developing business ideas and deciding on a good or service they would like to offer. They are applying creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills throughout the planning process. Students have been highly engaged and are already very excited to bring their ideas to life!
