YEAR 3

FROM THE CLASSROOM  

In Reading this week, students began a new book titled 'Freedom Day: Vincent Lingiari and the Story of the Wave Hill Walk-Off' by Rosie Smiler and Thomas Mayo. This text will be taught over both weeks 6 and 7. So far students have been enjoying the text and learning more about Australian Indigenous history.

In Writing, year 3 students began learning their new talk for write text, 'The Manor House!' Across this unit students will be focusing on increasing their skills in making the reader worried using rhetorical questions, using weather and time to increase an understanding of the atmosphere and use movement to intensify danger.

In Mathematics, students continued exploring probability and began conducting their own chance experiments. This includes flipping coins, rolling dice and predicting which colour linking cube will be pulled out of a bag. Students really enjoyed this last activity as it was very interactive and students were able to work with other students to predict which colour will be pulled out. 

In Wellbeing this week, students had rich discussions on challenging gender pressures and stereotypes. Students enjoyed dissecting different scenarios and coming to the conclusion that all things in life can be enjoyed by both boys and girls, for examples both boys and girls can be great at soccer!

During Inquiry,  students have been continuing their knowledge of celebrations and collaborations. This week we explored how people can have different perspectives about Australia Day. We learned why some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples remember January 26 differently and how it is celebrated by most Australians.

INQUIRY

• We are learning to compare and contrast two Australian events by identifying what is the same and what is different about them.
