FROM THE CLASSROOM

It has been another great week of learning in Prep! 

We continue to be amazed at the progress our students are making each day due to their hard work.

This week, students explored where honey comes from, learning about bees and the journey from hive to honey. Through play-based learning stations, they investigated the process of collecting and producing honey. They also put their learning into practice by working together to bake delicious honey joys!

In Phonics, students began reading and writing words with the digraph ‘ck’. They were introduced to the possessive apostrophe to show that an item or object belongs to a person.

In Reading, students explored new vocabulary and practised identifying the main idea of their mentor text. They used picture clues to make inferences about what was happening and asked and answered questions to deepen their understanding of the stories we read together. We were lucky to welcome author Amy Adeney, who captivated us with her storytelling and shared some of her most popular picture books, including 'Turning Cartwheels'.

In Writing, students dived into a new Talk for Writing narrative, 'Dear Zoo'. They were immersed in imaginative play through zoo small-world stations and even received a special gift in the post from Australia Zoo!

Students explored capacity through hands-on experiences in the sandpit, comparing different containers and investigating which ones held more or less. They practised ordering containers by capacity and used mathematical language to describe whether containers were empty, half-full or full.

REMINDERS

• Book Week Parade – Friday 28 August at 9:00 AM on the Outdoor Basketball Courts. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character.

• Library Borrowing – Students must bring their reader bag to borrow a library book. Please encourage students to independently place their reader bag in their school bag each night.
