2024 College Theme

The phrase “that they may be one” speaks to Jesus’ desire for unity among his followers.  Jesus is praying for the unity of all believers, emphasising a profound spiritual and relational oneness.  He is referring to the unity that exists between him and the Father and wishes for his followers to experience a similar kind of unity among themselves and with God.

The word “unity,” therefore, is the key word which encompasses our College Theme.  This unity underpins a significant theological and practical meaning. The theology provides us with a deeper understanding of the ideas behind our unity while the practical (or pastoral) provides us with a take-a-way set of ideas/practices to bring the ideas to life.

“…that they may be one…” (Jn. 17: 22) underscores for us two ways of being: [1] being ever mindful of what Jesus is praying for us to be in 2024 and the profound meaning of that prayer and [2] being every mindful of the fact that the profound meaning requires action as indicated in our three actions of the College Theme.  The phrase underscores the profound call for spiritual unity among all of us – believers and non-believers alike, a unity which is deeply rooted in the love of God. All of this challenges us to consider what we say and do; to change our ways so that in word and deed we “may be one.”
