Sustainability at OGPS

Welcome back to 2024! This year promises to be big in the world of Sustainability at OGPS.

Congratulations to our 2024 Sustainability leaders, Hannah M, Evie B, Hugo B and Rhys H. They will be leading the way in this area across the school year.

This week classes have discussed the incredible things we already do here at OGPS to make our school sustainable. Students have been coming up with new ideas to improve sustainability at school.  We hope to see new gardens, energy and water-saving initiatives and a new compost in 2024!

Here are just some of the things we do here at OGPS.

  1. We bring Nude Food in our lunch boxes. Every Tuesday we count the number of students with ‘Nude Food’ in each class and the winner wins a special plant to care for the week!
  2. We take any rubbish or leftover food home with us at the end of the school day.
  3. We sit in special spots in our classes during eating time. We do not take food or rubbish into the schoolyard. This helps our school look beautiful! We only have a few bins in our school yard, these are in the HOT spots where lots of rubbish is left or blown near.
  4. We have a recycling station in our school. You can collect many things and deliver them here to be recycled. We even have coffee cup recycling at the front office!
  5. We try not to waste paper. We use paper from the scrap paper tray when we need paper.
  6. We can put the paper into the blue bin if we have finished with the paper we have used. This is the paper recycling bin, we have special helpers to empty these bins.
  7. Lots of us here at OGPS walk or ride to school. This is great for the environment as we are not using cars that generate horrible emissions into the air.
  8. We only use our aircon and heaters when we need them. When we do we keep them at around 21 degrees.
