REC News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our Religious Education space for 2024. Next week begins our preparations for Easter, with Ash Wednesday on 14th February.

On Ash Wednesday, we celebrate as a school with our St. Andrew’s Church parishioners to receive ashes on our foreheads that were obtained by burning the palms used on the previous year’s Palm Sunday. The ashes help us connect the spiritual aspect of Christ’s cross and Resurrection with our everyday lives. We will celebrate Mass at 9:30 am at St. Andrew’s Church. During this Mass, we will also be inducting our new 2024 school leaders. We hope parents and friends can join us for this special occasion.

Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) will be held on Tuesday 13th February. During the school day, Mr Stewart will cook pancakes for all the students to enjoy. Traditionally during Lent, Christians would give up foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat. Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat these foods, so they would use them to cook yummy pancakes!

Ash Wednesday is a Holy day which represents the day we begin our Lenten promises. We follow the tradition of fasting, almsgiving and prayer as we remember the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert tempted by the devil.

We look forward to learning more about the Lent and Easter seasons during Religious Education Lessons.

Yours in faith,

Karlee Hatton
