Future Focus Weeks

Future Focus Weeks in Term 1, 2024

Equipment (including Computer Devices) - Focus Week 6 (4th – 8th March 2024)

Coming equipped for class is crucial in schools as it directly impacts the learning experience and academic success of students. Firstly, having the necessary materials, such as textbooks, notebooks, devices and writing tools, ensures that students can actively participate in classroom activities and follow along with lessons. This preparedness fosters engagement and understanding, contributing to a more effective learning environment.

Moreover, being equipped for class demonstrates a student's commitment to their education and a respect for the learning process. It allows teachers to focus on delivering content rather than dealing with disruptions caused by students lacking essential supplies. Additionally, it instils a sense of responsibility in students, teaching them organisational skills and the importance of being prepared for tasks at hand.

Having a charged device is especially important during the remainder of Term 1 for Years 7 & 9 students who will be undertaking their NAPLAN testing online. If any parent / carer is having difficulty providing the appropriate equipment for school, please reach out to the Wellbeing or Year Level Leader Teams for support - contact details listed in the College Contacts section of this newsletter.

Correct and Appropriate Uniform - Focus Week 7 (11th – 15th March 2024)

Uniforms play a vital role in maintaining a positive and conducive learning environment within schools. Firstly, uniforms promote a sense of equality among students, developing a feeling of unity and minimizing socio-economic disparities reducing potential distractions and instances of bullying related to clothing choices. It instils a sense of belonging and identity, reinforcing the idea that students are part of a larger community with shared values. This, in turn, can enhance school spirit and cohesion.

Uniforms also simplify the morning routine for students and parents, eliminating the stress associated with selecting appropriate attire. This streamlining process allows students to focus on their academic responsibilities rather than on fashion concerns.

By week 7 all students and families have had ample opportunity to communicate with the College with regards to any uniform issues. All students are expected to be in full school uniform as clearly outlined in the College Handbook throughout the school day. If they are not able to meet this expectation on a given day they should have a parent / carer written note explaining why.

Respecting the school environment - Focus Week 8 (18th – 22nd March 2024)

Students and educators alike play pivotal roles in maintaining a harmonious space that promotes academic growth and personal development. Respecting the school environment involves adhering to rules and regulations, treating facilities with care, and showing consideration for fellow learners and staff members. By keeping classrooms and open spaces tidy, disposing of waste responsibly, and refraining from vandalism, students contribute to the overall well-being of the school community. This shared responsibility ensures that schools remain vibrant hubs of knowledge, creativity, and positive social interactions. Students at Gisborne Secondary College will undertake environment focused activities in Week 8, including litter picking, planting and nude lunch competitions to promote respect for their learning environment.
