SWIM TEAM ANNOUNCED

Congratulations to our fifty Year 3-6 students who braved the early rise last Friday morning to attend our Swimming trials at GESAC.  It was fantastic to see so many ‘have a go’ and try their best.  A HUGE thank you goes to all the parents for supporting their child to get to these trials and training and to get them to school.

This year we have 30 students representing our school at the Dendy District Swimming carnival, which is being held on Monday 19th February at Oakleigh Rec. Pool.  This morning we had over 20 team members roll up to our first of two 7 - 8am training sessions at GESAC. Over the hour swimmers practiced their dive-starts, race-finish wall touches, worked on stroke development and fitness.  Well done to everyone that came along!

State Trials Nomination process for 2024.

Please contact Tania Thompson by 16th Feb

Each year, extremely talented sporting students have the opportunity to trial for a place in a School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team and participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. These trials are strictly for senior students (Year 5 or 6) currently competing at an ELITE LEVEL in their chosen sport. An example of this for AFL football would be that they have won or come Runner-Up their League (SMJFL) Best and Fairest for 12 year olds. Having come Best and Fairest at club level is not suffice.

Please note that participation in SSV team Vic state teams is self-funded, so students will be required to pay costs of administration levies, uniform, flights, accommodation and meals(approx $3000+). Students who are selected must be available to participate in a series of SSV trials if successful at each level, as outlined below -

* Beachside Division trials > Southern Metropolitan trials > SSV trials/camp.

The various sporting opportunities on offer and relevant application & trial dates are all advertised on the SSV website ‘Team Vic’ section.

To NOMINATE, parents (not students) must first:

  • Seek approval from the Sport Coordinator (Tania Thompson) including evidence of achievement at an elite level. St. Finbar’s requests a letter or email written by the child’s coach outlining the student’s outstanding skill level and achievements. We encourage only students of a Year 5 or Year 6 level to consider these trials if they fall into this elite sports category. This must be to the Sport Coordinator at least 3 weeks before the nomination date closes for this sport.

All information can be found via this website link: https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/team-vic

If approved by the Principal & Sports Coordinator for nomination, parents then:

  • Complete online nomination form-Submit $ payment of a non-refundable payment
  • Have Principal sign the nomination form

Many thanks,

Tania Thompson

Sports Coordinator.
