Class of 2023 Reflections

At the conclusion of 2023, two of our graduating students shared their thoughts about Pilgrim School:

By Zoe

To me Pilgrim is a Christ-centred community, a place full of people who care. At Pilgrim, people seem to find their place. I love the fun teachers who always listen. Going to Pilgrim has been so much fun. I’ve loved going on excursions and camps. Pilgrim is very close to my heart. I will remember fondly the exciting times like the Christmas activities in Foundation to Year 2, aquatics in Years 5 and 6, all the activities near Easter, and meeting my buddies for the first time. I really enjoyed spending time with buddies, big or small. Another thing I love about Pilgrim is the learning we can do here. I love that here we can do things like debating, making cards for people, making Little Miss and Mr Men books, having buddy time and a lot more things that some schools don’t do.

Pilgrim is a fun place for students and teachers. I reckon if you ask your teachers they will happily tell you all about their journey to Pilgrim and why they love it here. I’ve loved all the opportunities we get at Pilgrim like sports, musicals, and academics. At Pilgrim the people in your class are like family, you know them and they know you - when you come to school 5 days a week for 7 years, the people in your class are like a second family. So to me, Pilgrim means a place like home where people can belong with each other and God.

When someone says what does Pilgrim mean to me, the first thing I think of is loving. Pilgrim is such a loving environment that is very kind and is a good place to grow and learn. It is also very caring. The teachers all care for us so much and I have felt like I belong here. It is also encouraging because when you feel rubbish, which is not very often, there's always someone there for you, if it is a teacher or just one of your friends. I will miss all the time I have had at Pilgrim from Foundation to Year 6 and the teachers and friends, but I know that I will still have the memories which will last forever.

I couldn’t have asked for a better primary school than Pilgrim. I have absolutely loved my time at Pilgrim because we can do so many things that you wouldn’t normally be able to do outside school, like camps, excursions, and just learning in the classroom. These things try to push you to do your best so you can have the best experiences even if it means crawling through a pile of mud, like on camp.

I definitely have connected better with God from my time at Pilgrim through participating in prayers in the classroom and devotions. So when someone asks me what does Pilgrim mean to me, I honestly believe that it has been the best school that I could have gone to, and that it is a loving, caring, encouraging and Christ centred place for kids to learn.

Welcome to our Foundation Students

NAPLAN Nationally Coordinated Practice Test

On Tuesday 27th February, Pilgrim School will be participating in the Naplan Coordinated Practice Test (CPT) for Year 3 and 5 students. This is a requirement for all schools running NAPLAN, which takes place in Weeks 7 and 8 (13th - 27th March). The purpose of the CPT is to test the systems used to run NAPLAN and how our own IT infrastructure will manage the demand. Student results are not reported. It is also a good opportunity for students to become more familiar with the online platform. The test contains a mixture of reading, conventions of language and numeracy questions and will take 45 minutes.

Oliphant Science Awards 2024

Registrations are now open for the 2024 Oliphant Science Awards! Mr Harris will be coordinating the program this year. Students have already been asked to consider nominating, and Mr Harris will be collecting the names of interested students from across the school and sending home the registration forms and information about this event to families in the next couple of weeks.

Please read and discuss this with your child to ensure you are all comfortable with what is involved and how to ask for support along the way.

Kind regards,

Mr Harris

Pilgrim Choir Years 3 - 6

After a very successful year in 2023, this year, Kate Tretheway will again be training a Pilgrim School choir with accompaniment from Bess Sarre. Students in Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to join the choir with rehearsals being held on Thursdays during the final lesson of the day. The choir will again be performing a special item in the Musical as well as various performance opportunities throughout the year. We are currently exploring some new performance options for the choir and further information about these will be available in the coming weeks.

All students in Years 3 – 6  will have the opportunity to come to a 'come and try' session in Week 3. After this, students who are interested will be asked to commit to the choir.  We look forward to seeing our students continue to develop in confidence and musical ability through this activity.
