End-of-Year Careers Report

A huge congratulations to our 2023 graduating class and all of their successes over the year.  It has been a pleasure working with our Year 12 cohort and I look forward to learning about their plans and achievements as they move into the world beyond secondary school.

2023 has been a busy year in the careers space at South Oakleigh College and 2024 is shaping up to be just as full.  Some dates and events to be aware of in Semester 1.

  • Year 9 students will be completing the My Career Insights (Morrisby) profiling in the fourth week of Term 1 with students completing their career interviews from March 4 – 8.  The results from the program will help students complete their career action plans and prepare for senior subject selection later in the year.
  • South Oakleigh College is lucky enough to continue working with Monash Tech School and will be participating in its many industry immersions and career events in 2024.  Early in Term 1, we look forward to attending the Cyberpowers and Supersport industry immersions with several students, among many other events throughout the year. Expressions of interest will go up on Compass early in Term 1.
  • Our Year 11 and 12 cohorts will, once again, be attending the VCE and Career Expo early in Term 2.  This year the expo is taking place at a new location, The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.  This is always a great event for students to collect information from universities, TAFEs, training colleges and exhibitors with VCE, career, employment, apprenticeship and gap year information.
  • Towards the end of Term 4 this year Year 9 students were given information around completing work experience in Year 10.  It has been great to see many students already looking into and arranging placements for 2024.  Some placements are starting as early as Term 1 Week 4.  There will be additional information sessions and work experience assemblies running early in Term 1 to refresh students about the program and how to prepare.

With all of that to look forward to in the new year I wish the South Oakleigh College community all the best over the holidays and look forward to connecting with our students, families and staff in the new year!
