Principal's Report

End-of-Year Report

As we conclude yet another school year, it is with a sense of deep satisfaction that I am able to reflect that  2023 has been another successful year at South Oakleigh College.

Our students have had a vast array of opportunities to embrace the diverse and exciting experiences, as they embody the spirit of the South Oakleigh Vision and Values. This year, we have witnessed the talents of our students shine through numerous events and competitions, fostering a culture that encourages them to reach their best, emphasising social responsibility, empathy, and compassion.

I would like to thank and acknowledge our teachers and support staff whose intelligence, diversity, talent and commitment contribute immensely to our students' development. Their passion for teaching and learning is evident, and their dedication to our professional learning community and the Middle Year Leaders program is commendable, as they play a significant role in our students' learning and well-being.

I would also like to express my appreciation for the outstanding leadership provided by our Assistant Principals, Anthony Katsianos and Mark Picone, to our School Council, led by Mitzy Snessby all of whom have provided enormous support and guidance for our College.

I would like to thank all our parents and carers, your partnership with us is invaluable. The influence of family on student learning outcomes is unparalleled, and we appreciate your unwavering support. Your children's values, their respect for education and others, all stem from the foundation you provide. Thank you for being an integral part of the South Oakleigh College community.

Finally, to our students, I would like to commend you on your efforts, your leadership and application and encourage you to do your best every day in everything you do. Not every day will be perfect, not every interaction will be positive, and not every effort will be rewarded, but the steps you make, day by day, will lead you in the right direction.

VCE Results 2023

The VCAA (Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority) released the 2023 VCE results on Monday morning. I am very proud to say that our students again performed incredibly well.

Our median VCE study score was 29.

51.1% of our students received an ATAR over 70.

Our average ATAR was 71.45 – the state average was 69.4.

These results, I believe, continue to show the direction we are taking to seek continual improvement in student learning outcomes at our College and are a credit to students and teachers alike.

DUX of the COLLEGE

It is my pleasure to announce that the 2023 joint Dux of the College Priyansh Patel who gained an ATAR of 98.5 – is a truly outstanding achievement! A young man who worked hard with diligence and perseverance in his studies and this is reflected and rewarded with this outcome.

To the graduating class of 2023, congratulations on your achievements over the past two years. You leave equipped with skills and values that will serve you well in the next phase of your journey. As you step forward, remember our college values and make positive contributions to the communities you serve. Your success is a testament to your dedication.

Farewell to Staff

At this time I would also like to farewell some staff staff who have been a part of our community. On behalf of our community, I would like to publicly acknowledge their commitment and contributions to our College and wish them all the very best for their future. These staff include Grace Terdich, Christopher Blattman, Adele Oppedisano, Jeff Wong and Ilian Goldstein. We are extremely grateful for the work and commitment to our students during their time at SOC as teaching staff and education support staff on behalf of our school community.

Can I also take this last opportunity to wish all members of our College community a very Merry Christmas and a safe, relaxing holiday period with family and loved ones.
