CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to explore lines of symmetry in 2D shapes.

VOCABULARY

2D Shape: Shapes that are two dimensional and completely flat

Symmetry: Balanced and proportionate similarity that is found in two halves of an object. It means one-half is the mirror image of the other half.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Have your child go on a shape hunt around the house, locating and identifying different 2D shapes they can find.

Ask your child to draw and label the 2D shapes. Encourage your child to locate as many lines of symmetry for their shapes as possible (they may like to draw and cut out the shape so they can fold the shape to assist in locating the lines of symmetry)
