High Achiever Academic Recognition

The start of Term 1 sees important moments for us to celebrate students whose pursuit of personal excellence has resulted in high academic performance. We invited our 2023 students who have achieved an ATAR higher than 90, to our first assembly to offer our congratulations as a community. We also acknowledged our 2024 scholarship recipients for the 'Leave Nothing Undared Medal' and the most outstanding academic performance from each Year group.

The High Achievers’ lunches are held for Certificate of Distinction and Excellence recipients. The College Leadership served students as they mingled together over lunch before receiving their certificates. The sequence of activities highlighted the great value of hard work and perseverance in study, and brings those students who have met significant academic success into the limelight. That said, we know that academic excellence is personal and does not always reflect in the leaderboards so it is always worth noting that for all of us, we should reflect on our own pursuit of personal excellence, and if we too have persevered, be proud of that process of learning.

If you would like to understand the criteria and process of recognition for these honorifics, please check your SEQTA Engage homepage to find the document titled Academic and Leadership Recognition.

Hello High School

Each morning since the start of term the Year 7 areas have been abuzz with energy, sometimes excitement and sometimes nervousness. The transition has begun! The Year 7 team and teaching group are working hard to ensure each student is seen, known and supported as they begin high school. We invited youth coach, author and speaker, Claire Eaton to the campus on Tuesday to speak with our Year 7s. There was also a complementary parent session which we combined with St Brigid’s College as an opportunity for our communities to come together.

This is the first year Claire has spoken at Mazenod though her reputation as an expert preceded her. She provided our Year 7s with an overview of the developmental stages of the brain and put minds to rest with activities that acknowledged the challenges of being in early adolescence. A great benefit of the presentation was the clear, simple, yet effective, steps and tools students can utilize to manage moments of stress and challenge. We will definitely be inviting Claire Eaton back again!
