2024 House Swimming Carnival

On Monday, 19 February and Tuesday, 23 February 2024, students will be participating in the Annual House Swimming Carnival. The students will have the opportunity to participate in the College House competition and win points for their affiliated House, as well as earn selection in the ACC Interschool Swimming Squad. It is a participation based event and all students are required to attend and swim in at least one race. Injured students can help assist with the running of the day. Students will attend normal timetabled classes for the lessons other than those for their carnival.

 

Students will have the opportunity to nominate for particular events and divisions during their House assembly on Thursday of Week 3. Year 7s will be placed in events and divisions based on their results of the Year 7 swimming trials. 

 

Spectators are welcome to attend the carnival.

WHAT TO BRING:

Water bottle, sunscreen, towel, goggles, bathers.

 

UNIFORM:      

Students can wear their House PE uniform TO AND FROM school on the day of their carnival. (House shirt and school shorts, tracksuit if required). Please bring dry shorts and underwear to change into after the carnival. Students are allowed to wear Mazenod College swimming bathers or their PE sports shorts to swim in.

 

The boys are expected to behave appropriately and show the sportsmanship and endeavour that is expected from Mazenod students as they compete for the Father Kevin Davine OMI Perpetual House Swimming trophy. 

 

Spectators are welcome to all carnivals. If you would like to help out on the day please just come and see me or a member of the HPE Department prior to the commencement of the carnival you are attending. A program of events will be sent out closer to the carnival.

Swimming Training 

All students who are interested in attending swimming training in preparation for the upcoming House Swimming Carnivals or training for the interschool ACC team, training will start on Wednesday, 14 Feb (Week 3) at 7am at the College pool. Students who have represented the College at ACC level or swim at a club are encouraged to attend. Training sessions will run every Wednesday after up till the ACC Swimming Carnival.


Mouthguards

The College again are offering mouthguard fittings for the upcoming winter sport season. This provides a great opportunity to have a professionally fitted mouthguard at the College campus.

 

All fittings are in the College gymnasium kitchen at lunchtime (12:45-1:25).

Mouthguard forms are available from the gymnasium noticeboard folders/newsletter (attached below). Please return completed forms to Mr Mason in the PE office or in the return slip box in the gymnasium foyer. If you have any questions, please see Mr Mason in the PE office.


Whole School Tennis Championships

The 2024 School Tennis Championships are on: 

Friday, 16 February (Seniors 10-12) 3:45 - 5:30pm (numbers depending). 

Friday, 23 February (Juniors 7-9) 3:40 – 5:30pm (numbers depending).

 

Students are reminded that the standard of competition is very high and ONLY students who have played tennis are encouraged to nominate. If you have any questions please see Mr Mason in the PE office. Nominations forms can be collected from the gymnasium from Mr Mason and are to be returned by Monday, 12 February Week 3 (next week).

 


Athletics Success

Well done to Patrick and Noah on their achievements at the State Athletics Championships! Noah and Patrick won gold medals in the Swedish Relay and a bronze medal in the U17 4x100m relay.
