VET Pathways & WPL
VET Pathways & Workplace Learning News
I would like to welcome back the new and continuing VET students to the 2024 school year. We have a total of 65 students completing a range of certificates in Business, Education Support, Electrical, Automotive, Carpentry, IT, Electronics, Cybersecurity, Marine and Nursing. It is great to see the boys taking every opportunity to invest in their futures.
We also have 62 students completing a Certificate II in Furnishings and/or Engineering at school. These courses develop the skills and knowledge to work in a range of industries that require the awareness of procedures, routines and development of specific workplace skills.
Like with all subjects, it is imperative that the boys attend all lessons and keep in contact with their facilitator/teacher if they are unable to attend class as it may result in a non-completion of an assessment.
I would like to make a special mention of one of our Year 12 students who has secured the first School Based Trainee at Fortescue in Certificate II in Applied Digital Technologies. This student will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals in the mining industry from a wide range of backgrounds and skill levels. Upon completion Fortescue will work with him to find a placement within their organisation in the area that is of interest to him.
Industry & Pathways
During Week 6 the Industry and Pathways students will be completing their first work placement in a variety of industries. Work experience is an integral part of learning as it allows employers to supervise the students as they practice and extend the industry skills they have learnt in the classroom.
We wish them all the best and we look forward to visiting them onsite.

CAREER ADVICE
It is important that students wanting to apply for apprentices in 2025 and beyond start creating a portfolio as well as a resume/cover letter to ensure they are prepared for the ‘Apprenticeship intake season’. Employers of apprentices will compare your application against those of others. You can build your resume by:
- Doing sport/hobbies.
- Leading service projects or events at school.
- Entering academic competitions at school.
- Volunteering.
- Getting a part time job.
