A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the SLC on Springvale Campus
Wow! What an exciting and inspiring start to the school year! The SLC have engaged in social ande motional learning that has focused on getting to know their teachers and classmates, and helping them be the best learner they can be. They have also continued to explore and demonstrate the Springvale Rise Primary School values of Respect, Resilience, Collaboration and Excellence and have worked hard to enhance their learning environment to ensure it is safe, supportive and inclusive and reflects all members of their learning community.
Over the last few weeks, the SLC students have settled well into the learning routines of school. They have been focussing on identifying what makes a great learning community and have used the school values and their prior knowledge to set up supportive, inspiring and challenging learning communities in reading, writing, maths and social, emotional learning (SEL).
In Reading, the SLC students have had the excitement of going ‘book shopping’ in the learning space library, choosing and discussing the books that interest them and explaining why. They have engaged in learning around how great readers monitor their thinking when reading and have practised this using their own texts. In Writing, the SLC students have been exploring leadership roles at our school and have created application letters for these roles, explaining what leadership qualities they have and why this would make them a great leader of our school.
In Mathematics, the students have been learning to construct and interpret different data displays. They have been surveying their friends to learn more about their interests and presenting this information in a variety of ways. The students have completed a number assessment task and have been reflecting on what they know and identifying where to next in their learning. They look forward to engaging in a variety of ‘hands on’ activities to strengthen their understanding of place value and apply their learning to solve real life mathematical problems.
What a phenomenal start to the year! Well done SLC!
The SLC students worked collaboratively to identify the qualities of an effective learner; and what they do to achieve success!
The SLC students worked collaboratively to create a zones of regulation display; a tool that they can access to help them self-regulate.
