Term 1 Week 2 2024 -  Friday 9th February

What have we been up to?

The 1/2 teaching team would like to welcome back all our 1/2 students and parents in 2024. It has been a great start to the new school year and all the students should be very proud of how they have settled in. We are excited to see what Term 1 brings for the students! It has been wonderful to hear about everyone’s holidays and see we have been excited to see their happy faces again.

The students spent the first week focusing on Leader In Me activities and setting up their classroom for a great year. Each class has created their Personal and Academic W.I.G (Wildly Important Goal) for Term 1, worked together to create the classroom W.I.G and Personal and Class Mission Statements, as well as getting back into the routine of school. Week 2 saw the beginning of our learning in all areas. The students got straight into Reading, Writing and Mathematics. They have began their Little Learners Love Literacy program groups and have all been excited to see who they will be working with for this Term. During week 2 students have participated in all specialist classes and were very excited to have their first AUSLAN lesson with our new AUSLAN Teacher Mrs D.

The 1/2 team would also like to welcome Mr Downs who has joined the Le Page staff this year and welcome Ms Buchan who has moved from an ES position to a teaching position. The children are all very excited to spend their year with Mr Downs and Ms Buchan and have already formed beautiful relationships with them. We all look forward to getting to know all 1/2 students and working with their families throughout the year.

What is coming up?

Reading

For the next two weeks the students will have a focus on Narrative texts. We will be reading  ‘Alfie’s Search for Destiny’ by David Hardy for both weeks and focusing on different sections of the book. There will also be a focus on comprehension and reading fluency.

Writing

For writing, students will have a focus on sentence structure and handwriting using the Write 2 Learn program. They will also be using the text ‘Alfie’s Search for Destiny’ to dissect the author's choices and language and use it to write their own narrative paragraphs.

Maths

To kick off our number and algebra exploration, students will be focusing on counting and ‘trusting the count’. Students will engage in a range of activities that strengthen their counting skills and number recognition.
