Room 10 - Year 2

Students in Room 10 have been incredibly busy this term and have enthusiastically embraced the art of making sock puppets as part of their design and technology curriculum.

The activity which has been a process over some weeks has allowed students to explore their creativity skills as they were given a project brief to design and construct unique characters, using simple materials like socks, buttons, yarn, and recycled materials. Through this experience students worked on their problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills.

In addition to sock puppet making students in Room 10 have also been learning about many different animals from across the globe.

Engaging in a range of media, including print and online short clips from Kids National Geographic, students have been learning about interesting facts about various animals and have been busy making mini books on their animals.

School Athletics Carnival

Jumps and Throws

Last Thursday we held our athletics carnival, although the contest for the top faction started on Tuesday with our jumps and throws. This was the first year that we started using the javelins in throws, thank you to Ms Foster for all of her extra work in preparing our senior students for this new event.

The day itself started with our sprints, the chants echoing out from the tents. This was followed by our brave year 1's and 2's competing in their relays before recess.  After recess we had our team events, the Pre-primary students starting us off with their races and relays. After some hurdles, we got into the team games and then the parents showed us how it was done, competing in a 50m race and some of our team games. At the long break we had just a 1-point difference between first and second.

After lunch we had the rest of our team events before we had our premier event, the loop relay. It was a close contest, but Success ultimately won our loop-relay shield. Success was also our overall champion faction, with Challenger second and Parmelia third.

Special thank you to the staff who were here early, the tireless efforts of Ms Foster, Mr Rondoni and Miss Tingle for organising the carnival and the canteen for the wonderful food.

Education Assistant's Day

Our wonderful Education Assistants were shown plenty of gratitude last week by students and staff for their ongoing hard work and support.

Parent/Caregivers Volunteer Declaration Form Changes

We thank all our parents who generously volunteer their time and energy to support our school community. There are some changes to the Working with Children Check policy, to ensure the safety of children when we have volunteers in the school.

This is effective from Monday, 14 August 2023.

If you would like to volunteer at our school, you will need to sign a ‘Parent and child volunteer declaration form’

These changes affect parents who are engaged in volunteer work. For example, you are considered a volunteer when you assist with activities such as:

  • reading sessions
  • day excursions
  • canteen duties
  • helping at a sports carnival
  • carrying out P&C duties ie. cake stall during recess

You are not a volunteer when:

  • picking up and dropping off your child
  • observing events like school assemblies
  • attending parent and teacher interviews
  • visiting the uniform shop

Therefore, you do not need to complete the Parent and Child Volunteer Declaration.

You cannot volunteer if you have a current Working with Children Negative Notice or Interim Negative Notice.

If your circumstances change, and you are issued with a Negative Notice or Interim Negative Notice after completing the ‘Parent and child volunteer declaration form’, you must advise the principal.

A current Working with Children Check is required by all other family members (ie. Grandparents) and friends over 18 years of age who want to volunteer.

It is a collective responsibility to ensure the safety of our children. We appreciate your ongoing support and dedication to our school community.
