Book Week

This year we celebrated Book Week from August 21st – 24th. We were lucky enough to have three amazing mystery readers, Snr. Constable Ryan Coleman from Wallan Police station, The wonderful Jayden Sheridan from local youth group Gnarly neighbours and the ever-popular Warrant Officer Peter Akkersdyk from Puckapunyal Military Base. All three read books that were chosen specifically for them from this year’s short listed book nominees. Students engaged beautifully with the readers asking respectful questions and listening intently to the stories that these three amazing men had to share.

We had two competitions running all week long, a mystery whodunnit and a book scavenger hunt each celebrating popular Australian authors. The competitions were a huge success, I lost count of the number of students coming up to me each day sharing their guesses and theories about whodunnit and where books may be hidden.  Our librarian Isobel also ran very successful sessions in the art room at breaks for students to participate in Book Week craft activities.

On the final day we celebrated with our annual Book Week Parade, I have to say the effort students and staff went to this year for their costumes was outstanding and helped create such a joyous, happy atmosphere for our last day of Book Week. The day was capped off with a delicious Mad Hatters Tea party for lunch in our café. A huge thank you to Isobel for all her help in the lead up to and during book week, Mandy Ridd, Lily Ball, Lexie Nelson, Jessie Sutherland, Sophie Fifield, and Evie Tarran for help with our beautiful library display, Luke, Darrelyn, Joy and Cherie in the café and all the students who contributed their ideas and time throughout the week.

Congratulations to our competition and costume winners. I can’t wait for an even bigger and better Book Week next year!

Fathers Day

Father’s Day preparation was in full swing on Friday with students buying, wrapping and decorating their special gifts. Grade 5/6 students used ICT to format and create a personalised card for dads.

Happy Father’s Day to everyone who celebrated on Sunday!
