From the Office

School Drop Off and Pick Up

Just a friendly reminder that if you are dropping your child off after the school bell, it is the parent’s responsibility to sign them in at the office. We know that some of our older students are responsible enough to do this on their own, but please reiterate the importance of going through the office building.

We are seeing an increasing number of students who are not being signed in correctly. If they are not signed in, you will receive a message stating that your child is absent. This can be quite confronting and concerning, particularly when you know you dropped your child at school and then they have been marked absent.

The same goes for if you are collecting your child and taking them home, we need you to sign them out at the office. This is just as important as our staff will get notifications that they are present on the roll, but they are unable to physically see them. This triggers our emergency response procedures to help locate a missing child. This can often include calling the police as it is a safety concern.

Friday Lunch Order Service

A reminder that we run a lunch order service on Fridays. The Deli Platter Café in Olinda have developed an online shop with some items from their café that are suitable for schools. The lunch orders are delivered to school just prior to lunch eating time.

If you would like to order a special lunch for your child/ren on a Friday, please order online by 5:00pm on the Thursday afternoon prior, using the link below:

The password is billanookprimary

Please note that if your child is away on the Friday and you have ordered a lunch order, there is a 'Contact Us' button in the school's section so that you can inform the cafe and organise a credit.

Staff Car Park Reminder

The staff car park is out of bounds to children at all times. Please donot deliver your children to the staff car park gate and allow them to walk through the staff car park.

Similarly, if parking in the top car park near the basketball courts, please use the stairs near the gym to access classrooms, donot use the stairs that lead to the staff car park. The only  exception to this rule is when parents deliver or collect children from the OSHCARE program.

Parents are asked not to use the staff car park immediately before or after school or during the school day as there are insufficient parking spots for staff.

We also ask you to be mindful of the ‘No Standing’ signs along the school boundary on Taruna Rise. Parking in this area is an infringement that may incur a fine.

Working With Children Checks For Volunteers

A Victorian Government Working With Children Check (WWC) will be required by all adults who undertake any voluntary work at Billanook.  This means anyone working in the school canteen, helpers in the classroom, school camps, computer lab etc.

Holding a Police Check is not enough. WWC is ongoing monitoring of the criminal records of those who hold a WWC Card. Since the 30th June 2008 it is compulsory for all volunteers to provide a current WWC.

To obtain a Working With Children Check you must now apply online at https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

To complete the application form you must have:

  • an email address, so you can contacted
  • the address of every place you have lived in the last 5 years in Australia
  • the name, postal address and phone number in Australia for each organisation you will be doing paid or volunteer child-related work for
  • a printer that will print a legible copy of the Application summary.

After filling in the online form, finalise your application at a  participating Australia Post retail outlet, by presenting your application summary, proof of identity documents and a      passport quality photo. Employee WWC Check applicants need to also pay a fee. Fees are non-refundable.
