STAFF PROFILE
Sarah Jeffreys:
Role: Assistant Principal
Why did you want to become a teacher?
I have always loved working with and helping people. I was actually a nurse for 5 years prior to becoming a teacher. I worked at St John of God Hospital. I loved nursing but I had such a strong desire to help students learn. I have loved both careers as both help people and are so rewarding.
How long have you been at Chilwell Primary School for?
For 12 years, since 2011.
Are you Part time or Full time?
Full Time
What is your favourite thing about working at Chilwell?
I love our whole community. We are so lucky. We have great students, parents and staff who are all committed to our school and work together to help students be the best they can be! I genuinely love to come to school every day.
If you could describe Chilwell in 3 words, what would they be?
Learning for Life!
What legacy do you hope to leave with the children you teach?
That they leave the classroom with moments and memories that they’ll always remember – memories of a special story, song, fun, learning experience, event. Something they’ll happily reflect on in future years from their time in the classroom, in concert or during my current role as Assistant Principal.
If you had all the parents of your current students in the room with you, what would you like to say to them about their child's time with you?
Our learning journey ahead will be like a day in the surf … who doesn’t love the beach – sometimes we will conquer the waves, even perform some great tricks but sometimes there will be wipeouts and that is ok, because together, we’ll get back up on the board, keep on trying and we’ll have so much fun along the way.
How do you measure success in terms of your teaching / your time with the students?
For students to learn and achieve, they need to feel engaged, motivated and safe within the learning environment. Success is a smile at the end of a day and ‘never being too cool to say hello’. Just last year I had a 25-year-old student run up to me at the shopping plaza with a huge hello. I thanked them for doing that and they said, ‘you always said, never be too cool to say hello’. I hope all students will continue to feel a connection and say hello, well beyond the gates of Chilwell PS.
Is there something about you that your students would be surprised to know? (Hidden talent? A previous job?)
I love to dance, sing and act and have performed in local Musical Theatre shows such as Cinderella and Sound of Music. I can even tap dance!
