STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Footy Day and Hot Dog Day...

Last Friday we had a special day where you could come dressed in your favourite footy team’s colours or as your favourite sports hero. It was terrific to see so many people dress up.

We also had a hot dog lunch. We would like to thank the following parents for their help on the day, as it wouldn’t have been possible without them. Thank you to Taryn Fisher, Kristy George, Georgie Patterson and Caroline Maher for giving up their time. We would also like to thank Ms Wieland and Meg for organising all of the supplies.

We raised approximately $1,600. Some of this money will go towards our fabulous new goal posts and some will go towards our grade 6 graduation. Thank you everyone for supporting this special day and we hope that everyone enjoyed their lunch.

Division Athletics:

On Tuesday 5th of September, 27 students from grade 4,5 &6 represented the school at the division athletics event at Landy Field. Despite some wild weather, we all had a great time and enjoyed the challenge of competing against so many other schools. Congratulations to Eve who will go onto the regional level for shot put & discuss, Lenny who will progress for long jump and Landon who will run the 1500m. Some other podium finishes were Lenny who came third in the 100m, Liam who came third in triple jump, and our 9/10 boys relay team who came second. Thank you to Mr. C & Mrs Parsons for organising the day and taking us.

Debating - Team A

Round 3 of the Barwon Inter-School Debating Competition

On Wednesday 30th August, Team A headed to Point Lonsdale Primary School for our first official impromptu debate. The previous two rounds were prepared debates. We only had 30 minutes to prepare a speech on an unknown topic before presenting the actual debate in front of the adjudicator and audience.

As the visitors, we were arguing for the negative. This meant we had to disagree with the topic, which was "Dogs Should Be Allowed On Public Parks and Beaches". First speaker was Sayuni, second speaker was Minnie and third speaker was Eli. Our fourth member, Asher, assisted with preparations.

Team A spoke about dog droppings, allergies, disruptive behaviour, destructive tendencies, responsibility and phobias. It was a tough debate with lots of good points from both sides, but we worked hard as a team and came through with the win. Big congratulations to Sayuni who was awarded best speaker of the debate!

Thanks to Mrs Stephenson and Mrs McLaren for helping us practise and develop our impromptu debating skills, and to those students and parents who supported us by attending the debate.

We wish all our debaters the very best of luck for their upcoming debates.

Debating - Team B

Round 3 of the Barwon Inter-School debating competition

On Thursday the 7th of September, Chilwell Debating Team B had their first impromptu debate at Highton Primary School. This was our third round debate.

The topic was "All Dogs Should Have to Attend Obediance School". We were the negative team, meaning we had to disagree with the topic. First speaker was Alice, second speaker was Niki, and I was third speaker.

We argued about the cost, the fact dog school may not work, safety of trainers, and that you can train your dog by yourself. It was a tough debate with lots of rebuttal, but we persevered and came through with the win. Niki and myself were awarded joint best speakers. Also a special thanks to Mrs Mclaren for coming along to support us!

Our final impromptu round will be a double-header hosted by Chilwell on Wednesday 1st November. We hope to see you there!

Capacity Relay:

Do you know what capacity means? Capacity is how much liquid a container can hold. Here is an example: How much water will there be if a litre bottle is filled half way? 500mL.

Last week the Grade 3s had fun in a Capacity Relay. The rules were that you had to get all the water from one bucket to the other bucket by only using a sponge to carry the water. We focussed on being the first team to transfer the water to the other bucket. Bonus points were awarded for having the most water and great teamwork. We had lots of fun and got a little wet too.
