PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Good afternoon,

We certainly have again had a jam-packed term and I thank all students and staff for their active contributions across the school.

Thank you to our fundraising committee for their organisation with Monica Wieland for our Footy Colours Day. Although terrible weather, a day enjoyed by all. Thank you to Taryn Fisher, Kristy George, Georgie Patterson and Caroline Maher for volunteering to prepare near on 400 hotdogs for students.

To finish the term off with a ‘Bang’, I can’t wait to celebrate with our concert tomorrow evening. Thank you in advance to Meegan Baker, for her amazing efforts in putting this event together and preparing the students so well. Thank you also to a number of other staff for their contributions to the planning and preparation of this event. Big congratulations to our student performers, overwhelming for some of us and a great effort by all just having a go.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Anna Gbikpi-Benissan an Inclusion Outreach Coach from the Department of Education, that has worked with staff over the past 6 months.  Anna has worked across the school, undertaking classroom observations for all staff supporting inclusive practices.  She has implemented professional learning and has worked with individual staff through coaching models to support them in with the effectiveness of their teaching practice to support all students with their learning, engagement and wellbeing. We wish Anna all the best for her next assigned school and thank her for the work she has undertaken here.

I would also like to thank Sam Callan for stepping into grade 4 this term along with Stacey Parsons, who took on the Health and PE role in Amy Van Braams absence. Both Stacey and Sam seamlessly fit in with the school community, actively engaging in all Chilwell activities and being wonderful additions to our teaching and learning team.

Can I remind all students to ensure they are crossing the roads in a safely manner.  This includes crossing at Huntingdon St, whereby we are seeing multiple students cutting across in between cars that are exiting the street.  We also ask that all students and families walk across the school crossings. This is not a place to attempt to rush, and at all times we expect courtesy and respect towards crossing staff.

As you are aware, we are committed to ensuring that everyone is treated with respect, fairness, and dignity. We strive to lead by example, and encourage all staff, students, parents, and members of the school community to make a similar effort, especially when a challenging issue arises. Parents/carers are welcome to raise concerns and ask questions with a staff member, however we remind all parents that they are not to approach another student in the yard in an attempt to manage a situation themselves. This is the responsibility of staff and myself, and under no circumstances a parent/carer. This reminder is part of fulfilling our responsibility to ensure we maintain the safety, security, health, and wellbeing of all of our staff, students and community members.

I thank everyone for their support and contribution to the Chilwell community this term.  As we head into warmer weather, I look forward to the term ahead.

Please ensure we look after the school grounds over the break.  This includes placing rubbish in the bins provided and NOT swinging on the goal posts.  This ensures that we are respecting our grounds and grateful for the use of such an engaging area outside of school hours.

Have a great break and see you in October.

Kind regards,

Meg
