This week in Reading,  we are continuing our learning on determining importance.

VOCABULARY

Information report: a text that shares facts about the topic 

Features: what the text includes

Subheadings: tells us what the paragraph is about

Diagrams: images 

Captions: tells us about the picture

Structure: what an explanation text is going to look like

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Once your child has finished reading a text, ask them to determine the important information..

A sentence starter to assist could be:

The text is mostly about (main idea)  …. because ….. 

Your child could also identify the following from the story:

Characters, problem, solution
