Primary School

Our Primary students were treated to many opportunities to turn into scientists throughout the week, with a variety of lunchtime activities organised by the Science Department. A highlight of Science Week this year was the opportunity to combine our K-4 students with Year 9 and 10 Science classes. Each primary class came along and joined in with the older students to carry out an experiment. The younger students learnt about chemical reactions and that adding too much food colouring to their bath bombs was the same thing as adding too much water, resulting in some slowly expanding packages leaving the laboratory. Students also made slime and discussed its properties in terms of its chemical structure. While a few students needed two attempts to get the ratios right, everyone left with a successful bag of slime.

Book Week Character Parade

Our students and staff were all extremely excited to be in costume to celebrate this year's theme of “Read, Grow, Inspire” on Wednesday morning at our Primary Book Week Character Parade, held out on the Tennis Courts. There were many different costumes and books shared within each class. Our parents came along to support students in our school community which was fantastic. Special thanks to Ms Height for organising this great event on our school calendar. These days provide lovely memories for our students, staff and families. For more photos about all the Book Week fun, please make sure you visit the Resource Centre page in this newsletter.

Primary Assembly

On Friday 18 August, the Primary School community connected at the final Primary Assembly for Term 3. I would like to congratulate Lachlan Nagle and Teagan Moon, our Meninya House Captains, for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed some beautiful performances from the Jr Singers, Primary Choir, Chanel Borg on piano, and Arabella Knight on guitar. In addition, we were treated to a special performance from the Snr Drumline. This talented group of students recently  marked a historic moment by participating in the Australian Drumline Competition for the first time. Their superb performance earned them several awards and Mr. Kevin Kiely should be congratulated, because his guidance and expertise ensured the Snr Drumline’s great success.

Congratulations to the Year 3 cohort for their wonderful performance about quadrilaterals. We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 20 October when the Kindergarten students will perform for us. Congratulations to the students below who received a Core Value Award for consistently displaying one or more of the School’s Core Values and Motto. Keep up the great work!

Stage 3 Assembly

Last Tuesday afternoon, Stage 3 held their Assembly which was led by Allegra, Ashton and Charlie.  Informative recaps were presented such as the Moama Lights display at school (Lyla H and Sienna), the girls and boys football recap (Lexi and Jed), a RAS recap (Ted) as well as an update on the Year 5 Jump Rope for Heart progress (Ruby and Pippa).  At the end of the Assembly, Year 6 students imparted their knowledge and experience of the Year 5 Leadership application process to our current Year 5 students.  This provided the Year 5's with valuable insights into nominating for positions and crafting leadership speeches. Thank you for sharing your wisdom Year 6!

The Great Australian Book Swap

We are excited to join ‘The Great Australian Book Swap’ again this year. The Book Swap is an initiative of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (IFL). The ILF is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia in remote areas. They are a community-led charity, responding to requests from these communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.

This Year, our Parents and Friends are hosting the Swap Book Swap in the Resource Centre on the 7th of September to coincide with Indigenous Literacy Day. This day celebrates and supports First Australian authors and publishers. You can also support our fundraising campaign by visiting the website https://edu.greatbookswap.org.au/moamaanglicangrammargreatbookswap

We are looking forward to your support.
