Year 5
Sovereign Hill Excursion
The Year 5s had a fantastic time at our excursion to Sovereign Hill on Thursday 10 August. Following are some student’s account on their experiences on the day.
My expereince at Sovereign HiIl was amazing. I enjoyed the activities the teachers arranged for us. They were all challenging and fun. I learned a lot about the Gold Rush era and I am grateful for the teachers for arranging this fun trip for us.

I had a lot of fun at Sovereign Hill and the candle-making demonstration was very interesting. I learned that on the colder day, the candle-making process took longer than teh hotter days.We panned for gold and I found some specks of gold which I excitedly brought home in a little vile. We had dinner at Lazy Moe’s and we were lucky we had so many option to choose from. We even had dessert.

My trip to Sovereign Hill was really fantastic. I enjoyed watching Nick teach us how to make candy drops. The best part about it was when he smashed the candy on the table after it was all hardened. We all got to sample and taste the coca-cola drops. The gold pouring was really interesting because the man pretend to get a third degree burn when he was grabbing the gold bar. He was funny.

When we arrived at Sovereign Hill, we ate recess because it was recess time. It was a lot of fun but at the end we were tired and ready to go home.
First some of us went to the confectionary which the man there told us the history if the boiled lollies that he was making. They were so yummy. Next, we went to the candle-making store where we were shown how they made candles back then and how fast they made them. Some students chose to buy some coloured candles. After that, we went to the Red Hill mine tour. There we learnt about the biggest nugget of gold ever found un Sovereign Hill.
Later, we went to the lolly shop and after that we did some gold panning. Some of us found but most didn’t. We got to spend some time at the gift shop. We went to Lazy Moe’s for dinner and boarded the bus home after dinner.

My experience at SH was a really good experience because of the workers and the theme of the place. One of my highlights was when someone shared their lolly with me. It was a really beautiful experience and the view was amazing. While I was panning, it took me a couple of tries before I found gold. A few minutes later, we had to leave for our next activity but after a while we came back to panning. The second time around, I found more gold. I was very lucky and happy that I was able to bring back quite a bit of gold as a souvenir. After we left SH, there was a little bus ride to a place called LM. We had amazing food there and the size of the meals were good.
Manuka S (5R)
My experience at SH was amazing because of the activities. My favourite activity was when we went down the mine to have a look at the second biggest gold nugget, The Welcome Nugget. During panning, I could not find gold but one of my classmates, who found a lot of gold shared with me some of the ones he found. On the way back, we stopped by at LM to have dinner. Eating with my friends was a lot of fun and it reminded me of camp. The way back home was very tiring but eventually we reached school and as soon as I got home I went straight to bed.

Living Wax Museum
On Wednesday this week, the Year 5 students transformed the Hall into a scene from the 1800s. I would like to commend our Year 5 students for their incredible efforts at the Living Wax Museum. The Australian Gold Rush characters they portrayed were brought to life through their posters, costumes, and confident presentations. It was truly a sight to behold, and we are immensely proud of their hard work. We would like to thank everyone in the community especially the parent community for supporting your children, the students who worked hard all term researching their chosen individual, and the staff and students for coming along and being excellent ‘visitors’ to our Living Wax Museum.
Camp Quality Incursion
Camp Quality arrived on Wednesday for a memorable incursion. The children were treated to a skit performed by two lovely hosts, which focused on the journey of a little girl named Ariel who battled cancer. This experience helped our students gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by families dealing with illness. It was a touching and educational event and the students were thoroughly entertained while learning more about this disease.
