Year 1
Magic Show and Workshop
On Wednesday 16 August Year 1 had a visit from Melbourne Magic Academy to create for some fairytale magic! Tim shared some amazing tricks with us, he had a flying wand, made confetti out of nowhere, did an awesome balloon dog trick and even more!!!! After the show, each Year One class participated in a magic workshop and even learnt a MAGIC BOOKSHELF trick.
Fairy Tale Dress Up Day
We celebrated our study of fairy tales in Term 3 with a Fairy Tale Dress Up Day on Monday 4 September. Students were encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite fairy tale character, and my goodness what an amazing collection there were! The day included a celebratory fairy tale lunch was held in the Hall.
Here is the amazing story told by the Gingerbread Man (aka Miss O'Mahony) at Assembly:
Once upon a time, at a magical land called Essex Heights Primary School there lived 91 Year 1 students who had been learning all about Fairytales. Each day, they came to school with a smile, excited for what the day would bring. These students worked so hard and each day they lived the Essex Heights expectations of ‘Be Safe’, ‘Be Responsible’ and ‘Be a Learner’.
One day, Mr Perini came to school and he was heading to see the Year 1’s and read them his favourite fairytale story. He loved those Year 1’s because they were all such great listeners and so respectful. Except when he got to the first class 1M, there was a really big problem.
Mr Perini walked into the building and said “Hello 1M, how are you today?” but then he JUMPED and looked VERY SHOCKED… it seemed as though all of the children had turned into Fairytale characters!!! There was no Chloe, no Hugo and definitely no Kai… instead there were bears, dragons and princesses too. Mr Perini was so scared that he ran over to 1L’s classroom instead.
When he got there, he was greeted by a rather hairy, scary (but also cute) wolf like character, there was no Mr Liao in sight. Mr Perini said “Oh dear, what is happening today? I’ve lost all the Year 1’s and their teachers!”. The people in 1L were leaving the classroom and all they said was “follow us. follow us. follow us.”
Mr Perini was very concerned so he thought he should follow them and try to get to the bottom of this problem. They were just reaching the heights when he noticed the whole area had turned into some mystical forest! In the middle of the woods was a red riding hood that looked a little like Carolyn. Mr Perini said “Carolyn, 1W, is that you?”. Little Red smiled back at him. All of a sudden, he noticed a glowing light on the ground. Mr Perini decided to follow it. He was scared, he hoped Mrs Zaibak would come rescue him.
He followed the glowing light, it led him to CandyLand! In Candyland there were 22 more little fairytale characters cooking and cleaning. They were listening to instructions from a piece of Gingerbread…oh wait! That's me!!!!! Hang on a second, let's go back…wait is this about us!
Oh no, Year 1’s we must tell Mr Perini it’s ok. What day is it today?
IT’S FAIRYTALE DAY!!!!!
Mr Perini you must have been dreaming, there is no forest on The Heights, no CandyLand! No students are missing and Mr Liao is that spooky character you saw. We are celebrating our Fairytale Unit today. But I know what you mean, our costumes from our amazing parents are soooo realistic!
Well, in that case. Mr Perini was relieved to find out everyone was ok and we were just dressed up for Fairytale Day. Peace was restored and the entire school lived happily ever after.
THE END!
