Term 3, Week 8 - Friday 1st September, 2023

Good afternoon OLSC families

Wising all the Dads, Grand Dads, Uncles and Top Blokes that support the students in our community a very happy Father's Day for Sunday.  We all hope that yo have a great day and enjoy the company of your loved ones.

Here's a recap of the last two weeks at OLSC...

OLSC Book Week and Parade

On Wednesday last week, students and teachers celebrated a shared love of books by dressing up for the OLSC Book Week parade. It was a joyous occasion with lots of dancing, party clothes and wonderful book-related costumes. Thank you to the families who joined us for this celebration, they had front-row seats to a spectacular show! Throughout the week, students listened to many of the shortlisted books and responded to the stories in very creative ways.

On the day, 12 students from across the four Learning Centres were awarded vouchers to the Book Fair for their creative costume designs. Congratulations to the following costume winners:

LC1: Xavier, Talia and Flynn

LC2 : Zarnah, Grace and Ava

LC3: Jeicob, Khloe and Boston

LC4: Xavier, Fredrick and Mokitha

On Monday, the Book Fair closed its doors for another year. Last week, books were flying off the shelves and our staff had trouble keeping up with the eagerness of the customers. We managed to sell just over $6500 worth of goods and truly appreciate the support of all the families who purchased items at the Fair. The Year 6 Art Leaders ran a colouring competition and 3 students in each year level were lucky enough to be chosen as winners!

Father's Day Breakfast and Prayer Service (Wednesday 30th August)

Father's Day Stall

On Thursday we had our annual Father's Day Stall.  It was very busy and there was a huge variety of potential gifts for Dad.  Thanks to the Parents and Friends group for organising and 'manning' the stall.

OLSC Feast Day Mass

Today we had a very special mass to the mark of feast day.  Thank you to the readers, choir, and all students for their reverent participation in the mass.  A huge thank you to John Dini for setting up and tranforming the sports centre which even included a stained glass window back drop.

Kaboom Kids Celebration

There was some very high energy this afternoon as we celebrated our feast day with Kaboom Kids.  A high intensity 90 minutes of exercise, games, dancing and fun was enjoyed by all.  A teacher dance off between Imogen, Scott, Alexandra and John was a highlight with John coming out the winner - they will all be sore tomorrow.

Here's what the next two weeks hold for us...

Year 5/6 Camp from Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th September

The students and staff from the 5/6 area are off to camp next week.  On Wednesday morning there may be some added traffic chaos as a couple of tour buses are loaded bound for Mt Everlyn YMCA camp.

Hot Dog Day

On Thursday 14th September the Parents and Friends Group have planned a hot dog lunch day.  Please see the Parents and Friends page of the newsletter for all information regarding ordering for this.  Orders close Thursday 7th September.

Prep Zoo Excursion

On Thursday 14th September the Prep students will be attending the Royal Melbourne Zoo for an excursion.  Thanks to Amanda for organising this massive day out.

Learning Expo

On the last of term we have a Learning Expo where students will be showcasing all their hard work and learning from our topic on sustainability.

Parents are welcome to come along to share and celebrate the students' learning.  It will take place in the individual Learning Centres from 9:00am.

Whole School Assembly

On the last day of school, we will be having our Whole School Assembly at 12:00pm, this will be held in our school hall. We look forward to seeing our families as we celebrate the achievements of the term.

Last Day Early Dismissal

Just a friendly reminder students will be finishing at 1:00pm on the 15th of September.

Some Reminders:

School Drop Off Time

Please remember that school drop off time is 8:30 am.  There is no supervision prior to the time and there seems to be an increasing number of students that are being dropped off early.  Before school care is available for families that require students to be onsite prior to 8:30am.

Have a great weekend and thanks everyone for your ongoing support of our school.
