Careers

Dear Year 12

I want to take a moment to acknowledge the end of your formal high school education and the transition to the next chapter. Please remember it is just your first post school #what’snext. You will have many ‘next’s’ over the course of your lifetime.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of watching you grow, learn, and discover your passions. It's been a joy to assist you in exploring potential career paths, providing guidance on employment, education and training, and helping you build the skills necessary to achieve your dreams.

As you step into this next phase of your life, I want to offer some words of advice:

  • Follow Your Passion: Pursue a career/study that aligns with your passions and values. When you love what you do, it's easier to overcome challenges and find fulfilment in your work.

  • Embrace Change: The world is constantly evolving, and so are your interests and goals. Be open to change and adaptable in your career choices. The path you start on may not be the one you end up pursuing, and that's perfectly okay. You will have several ‘next’s’ over the course of your life and they will all build on the previous one.

  • Continuously Learn: Education doesn't stop at graduation. Stay curious, seek out new knowledge, and invest in your personal and professional development. Lifelong learning is the key to staying relevant and fulfilled in your chosen career. The world of work is rapidly changing and it is expected that you will continue to do some form of study to keep up with these changes.

  • Network and Connect: Building meaningful relationships with others can open doors to unexpected opportunities. Reach out to mentors, peers, and professionals in your field of interest. Networking is a valuable skill that can help you advance in your career. I am part of your network. I will always be available to you even after you leave Kildare.

  • Give Back: As you achieve your career goals, remember to give back to your community and help others who may be on a similar path. Mentorship and volunteering can be incredibly rewarding and impactful.  Hopefully you will also be up to helping me out with future students. I am a firm believer in the phrase ‘you need to see to be’ and I love doing profiles of our ex-students to share with our current students. Some of you have already benefited from the generosity of our ex-students. Be like them.

Lastly, always remember that your career is just one part of your life, and your happiness and well-being should always come first. Strive for a balance that allows you to enjoy not only your professional success but also your personal life and relationships.

Congratulations on your graduation, and best wishes for all your #what’snext
