We're excited to share some highlights from the recently released NAPLAN results. These results help us celebrate our student's achievements and identify areas where we can provide additional support and guidance. As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, the proficiency standards have changed to better allow teachers and parents to see a meaningful and clear measure of each student’s achievement, and if a student is meeting expectations for their current stage of schooling. For example, the Exceeding level is descriptive of proficiency and clearly indicates a student has exceeded the expectations for their current stage of schooling.
The table below provides three Literacy highlights for our Year 3 cohort in Reading, Writing, and Grammar and Punctuation. The first column shows the percentage of our Year 3 students who achieved either an 'Exceeding' or 'Strong' proficiency level. The next two columns provide a comparison against a group of schools of a similar size and with a similar socio-economic demographic.
Year 3 | Exceeding or Strong (%) | Similar (%) | Diff (%) |
Reading | 68 | 64 | +4 |
Writing | 75 | 72 | +3 |
G & P | 49 | 46 | +3 |
The table below provides three Literacy highlights for our Year 5 cohort in Reading, Writing, and Spelling. The first column shows the percentage of our Year 5 students who achieved either an 'Exceeding' or 'Strong' proficiency level, whilst the next two again show the comparison to similar schools.
Year 5 | Exceeding or Strong (%) | Similar (%) | Diff (%) |
Reading | 81 | 74 | +7 |
Writing | 76 | 69 | +7 |
Spelling | 83 | 59 | +24 |
These results indicate pleasing progress with our ongoing Literacy improvement work and we look forward to continuing to build on this solid foundation next year.
