The Exchange

The Exchange has lasted 56 years because "in both schools, the tradition of The Exchange depends almost entirely on the goodwill, good behaviour and good manners of the student squad members" and Squad 56 was no exception.

In this edition of The Cheltonian, we focus on the squad members of 2023

After no event taking place in the last three years, it would have been very easy for the leaders of both schools to discontinue the event. Mr Sanders and I put the squad under a lot of pressure to understand their responsibility, as the team that would bring back The Exchange and ensure that its rich history would continue. They did not disappoint!

This was the very first Exchange for the majority of both teams. The vigorous, intense yet friendly rivalry between the teams of both schools is what carries The Exchange from year to year. As we rebuild the Exchange our students, both our Avenues Squad and their outstanding Cheer Squad, will come to understand that whether on the field, on the court or on the stage, Cheltenham Secondary College and Avenues College are friends first, competitors later.

While it was an intense week for the coordinators, Squad 56 made the experience so enjoyable. We can't thank the 2023 Squad enough, they are an amazing group of talented, funny and kind, young people and we are extremely proud of them.  

A very big thank you to our College families that opened their homes to visiting students, we thank you with all our hearts, in particular the Swales family who took in seven Avenues students. Please do not underestimate that without you, we could not run this event. Thank you Jenny and Mick Aldridge for the outstanding BBQ support, 180 people, what an effort!

It is time to start preparing for the 57th Exchange. Travelling to Avenues College in Windsor Gardens, South Australia will have a new set of challenges for the coordinators.
