ICAS Assessments have been held over the past two weeks at Wembley, with students sitting the Digital Technologies and English tests.
This week, there are no ICAS Assessments being supervised, while the ICAS Maths tests will be conducted next week (August 28 to September 1). More specific details of each test will be distributed at the beginning of the week.
We wish all of our students who are participating in the remaining ICAS assessments the best of luck.
YEAR THREE PHILLIP ISLAND CAMP
On Monday 7 August, the Year 3 students departed for Phillip Island. The students enjoyed three fun-filled days returning on Wednesday 9th of August. On the first day, the students visited a range of fuzzy friends and engaged in a game of mini golf at Maru Animal Park. They then settled into their cabins at CYC The Island, enjoyed their first outdoor activity and ventured on to visit the penguins. On the second day, the students started the day with a beach walk and then engaged in a range of outdoor activities such as Low Ropes, Mechanical Wall, Pedal Racers, Giant Swing, Archery and Trampolining. They then had dinner and got ready for our disco and movie night. On the final day, students engaged in their final outdoor activity and headed home, visiting the pelicans and having lunch along the way. We thank all the teachers and parents for their time to ensure that students were able to engage in a wonderful camp experience.
YEAR ONE BOTANIC GARDENS EXCURSION
On Thursday the Year One students went to the Royal Botanical Gardens. We did some activities with the people from there. We collected some leaves to use in a craft. We put them under a piece of paper and coloured over them lightly to create a pattern. Then we painted over the crayons. Our next activity was using some materials from around the gardens to make some different types of things like a house, mosaics, bird nest and more! We also had a scavenger hunt where we had to find some things around the Botanical Gardens. And we got to play some games and roll down a hill! It was fun!

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Wembley Primary School is excited to be participating again this year. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge. Individual student logins have been provided to students.
Please direct any queries to this year’s PRC coordinator, Christine Kane.
Happy Reading!
