Kitchen Garden Update

This month in the Kitchen

With winter well and truly here, our Year 3/4 classes spent this month making their own warming orecchiette pasta in class with a tomato sauce made using our own SKiPPS-grown tomatoes.

They paired this delicious dish by getting creative with a 'salad of your imagination' using the produce from the garden.

As always, our students came together and broken into four groups - each one responsible for a different aspect of the menu.

They discussed the many different types of pasta and tried their hardest with their Italian pronunciation. They talked about the pasta shape 'orecchiette' - translated as 'little ears' and how this can be made easily.

They made their pasta dough and then formed their own orecchiette, getting a small blob of dough and using a knife and flicking the pasta to create the ear shape.

They cooked this alongside a pasta sauce and a fresh salad from the garden.

Finally they sat down to enjoy the meal together. Why not try making your own pasta at home using the recipes found below?
