Literacy Update

Book Week 2023

It has been an exciting start to the week with all students having the opportunity to see a performance by Meerkat Productions. Both performances were depictions of two shortlisted books for the 2023 CBCA. Years Foundation – Year 2 saw Frank’s Red Hat and Years 3 - 6 saw The Way of Dog.

Local author, Robert Lorenzon is visiting each year level to share his story about his Rescue dog Spike, who has learned to surf. Spike has won a dog surfing competition in Queensland. Many of the images in Robert’s book of Spike surfing have been taken locally at St Kilda West beach.

Robert is sharing stories with the students about using the ‘idea’ of a loved one (a pet) as a great story to write. He is also talking about the process required to have a story published and sold.

Robert is giving back 50% of all book sales to The Dog Rescue Centre.

See Spike on the big screen at the Astor Theatre on 29th August.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://topdogfilmfestival.com.au/
