Busking For Change

This year, Rosanna Primary school students, teachers and community are Busking For Change, changemakers. This is a new musical fundraiser by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). Simply put, students will learn to sing a song in English and Kriol and raise money for their efforts. Each participating student is invited to create their own fundraising page (linked to the school page), but you can also just donate to our school page if this is easier.  If you sign your student up and link it to our school page, then they can set their own fundraising goal and share how they are participating in Busking For Change with family and friends. As a school community we have a goal to raise $500, but we may be able to raise much more than that!  (There are prizes that can be won for our school should we manage to raise more). All funds raised help kids and families in remote Communities access and create books in the languages they speak at home.

Please check out our school page https://buskingforchange.ilf.org.au/rosanna-primary-school and learn more about this joyful fundraiser that helps us all to be changemakers.

Our performance day will be Friday 15th September, held on site at Rosanna Primary School as part of our end of term assembly. You are more than welcome to attend this, to watch our children in action, ‘Busking for Change’.

Guinea pig update

Wednesday lunchtime Guinea pig pats are now being housed along side the Origami lunchtime club in 1-2W.

Today we had about 25 kids come through for a pat of Puggles, along with feeding her some bamboo leaves. There are some regulars and some new kids every time. It’s lovely to see the care they take with Puggles. It’s teaching them patience to wait for their turn, and inclusivity when new people arrive, space is made in the circle.

Some kids were asking about taking Puggles home for the weekend so if you don’t have any cats or dogs, then you will be able to have her. She has already been home with one family and another is booked in the coming weeks - so I am very happy to share the Guinea pig love around the school community.

Chicken update

At the end of July RPS was able to purchase 2 more chickens to add to our flock. They are an Australorp breed which is an Australian breed, and are suited to our climate. They have a very calm in temperament and good layers, which makes them perfect for RPS. They will grow larger than Ginger and Marshmallow.

The two I chose were already BFFs (Best Friends Forever - for those who are needing an explanation!) One is black and the other is white with speckles. The white is an unusual colour for this breed.

They are settling in very well to the coop and are getting used to people coming and going. They will become more comfortable over time, but for now they are still a bit wary. It is interesting to notice their personalities. Ginger and Marshmallow are the bosses - at the top of the pecking order and they do chase the new chickens around a little bit. All of this behaviour is very normal and part of having a flock of chickens. The black chicken is more confident than the white speckled one. And they cuddle up together at night on the roost in the coop. You can see a photo I snapped of it after their first night in their new home.

Now for the exciting bit - the names! Classes have been submitting name suggestions over the past week and the new chicken names will be announced at assembly this Friday. Make sure you come along to hear the news on Friday afternoon.

And as always - if you would like to be added to the roster to look after them on the weekends - email jackie.arbuckle@yahoo.com.au or text Jackie at 0413218761
