Year 7 Maths Project

Over the past two terms, our Year 7 students have been busy applying their mathematical skills in a creative and practical way through the Geometry and Measurement City Project.

In Term 3, students began the project with Geometricity, where they took on the roles of architects and city planners. Using their knowledge of shapes, angles, and symmetry, they designed their own cities built entirely on geometry — complete with roads, parks, and buildings.

This term, students moved into Measureopolis, the construction phase of their cities. They measured and calculated the area, perimeter, and volume of different city features, and created 3D nets and models to bring their designs to life.

The project has allowed students to see how mathematics connects to the real world, developing their problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and design skills — with some truly impressive cityscapes as the final result!

To celebrate their hard work, the best city projects will be displayed in Mason House, giving other Year 7 students the chance to view their friends’ creative and mathematically inspired designs.
