School Golf Final – by Liam W
Yesterday I attended the Golf Finals at Midlands Golf Club. When I got there, I signed in with Andrew and did some chipping before starting the competition at 9am. I was in a group of four with players from Ararat and Buninyong Primary School. I played the front nine. We all thought it was going to rain, but it didn’t, so we could finish the round with no rain. I played very well and had 35 strokes.
When we went into the clubhouse, I was very nervous because there was one other boy who had won the qualifying event, but I beat him with ease. Then someone else came in with 36 strokes, but I beat him by one stroke and won. I couldn’t have done this without the help of my coach Ben, who helped me improve my game so much. I also couldn’t have done it without Mum, who took me to both events, walked around the course with me, and supported me. This helped me become the Primary School Boys Champion.
Congratulations to Liam on this remarkable achievement.
Golf by Joanna Howgate
It was the day of Regionals Golf. There were lots of nerves but still I was full of excitement. It was 9 o clock, we had listened to all of the rules and we headed to our first hole. For me it was Hole 6 at Midlands Golf Course. It was the furthest away so my legs were in pain before we even started. When we hit off, I could tell people were here to win. By our fifth hole my shoes were drenched and it had just started to spit rain, luckily it had gone by the next few holes. By the last hole we were tired, legs were hurting, shoes soaking wet and we still had to walk all the way back.
When we got back to the club house, they were putting up the scores. Mine was an 81, not the best but not the worst. I was proud that I had made it that far even though I had never played a game of golf in my life. After golf I rushed off to swimming. What a day!
Well done Joanna on your efforts.
