Grade 3/4 Newsletter Update

We’ve had a fantastic start to Term 4 in Grade 3/4!

We began the term by re-establishing our classroom relationships and revisiting strategies from The Resilience Project. Students took part in lessons that focused on recognising their emotions and learning strategies to help manage them when they might feel frustrated or upset.

Our inquiry day was all about Digital Technology. Students explored what an algorithm is, identified different types of digital systems, and investigated inputs and outputs. A highlight was coding music using the Hour of Code website – this was a huge hit with everyone!

In literacy, we have been building our skills in persuasive writing. We’ve looked closely at using strong modality verbs such as must, should, and need, and have practised extending our sentences to strengthen our reasoning.

In numeracy, we’ve started strongly with addition – focusing on carrying and adding decimals. Students had the chance to apply these skills in a real-life scenario by ordering from a café menu and calculating totals. We are now moving into subtraction, building on the strong foundations already set.

Of course, one of the biggest things we’re looking forward to is camp! Excitement is building as we count down to what promises to be an action-packed and memorable experience.

It’s shaping up to be a busy and rewarding term as we finish the year on a high.
