It is designed to reduce the barriers that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders may face in education and is designed to provide accessible, customised, supported training.

Koomba Birdal 2025 at NM TAFE campus - Applications Open for 2026 Enrolment
The Koomba Birdal (Big Spark) program is designed to reduce the barriers that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders may face in education and is designed to provide accessible, customised, supported training.
It aims to increase employment and/or further education options with opportunities to connect with Aboriginal Career Guidance Officers to prepare and network with potential role models within industry to further increase successful outcomes.

12 & 13 November | UWA Year 8 Discovery Days
Every year, we invite Year 8 students to spend a day at UWA, to meet current Indigenous students and explore the uni campus.
Students will learn about different uni entry pathways and receive lunch, a free t-shirt, bucket hat and other uni merch.
Key information
Year 8 Discovery Days are a free program for schools. However, places are limited to 60 students per day due to venue capacities.

14 November | Djinanginy Day
Our one-day Djinanginy program (meaning ‘looking’ or ’seeing’ in Noongar) introduces Year 9 students to the uni environment through a mix of lecture-style and hands-on activities.
Students will get an insight into the different uni entry pathways, receive lunch, a free t-shirt, bucket hat and other uni merch.

Australian Aboriginal Mining Academy
The Australian Aboriginal Mining Academy was established in 2019 to facilitate the creation of meaningful job opportunities in the resources sector for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision of education and training.
