Year 3 News

Reading
In Week 8, students learned to summarise non-fiction texts by firstly identifying the main idea of each section and then creating short, clear summaries in their own words to show they understood the most important points.
In Week 9, Year 3 students learned to identify fantasy fiction and realistic fiction texts. They discussed how all fiction includes characters, settings, and the events of a narrative, such as the beginning, middle and end. They may also include features of fantasy and other impossible elements, such as magic or talking animals.
“I really liked the book that I summarised. It was about crocodiles!” Saihaj 3B

Writing
In Week 8, Year 3 students have been busy revising, editing and publishing their spoken texts. They refined their cue cards and PowerPoint slides, corrected errors and ensured their changes were transferred into their final presentation. Students also enhanced their presentations by adding images, illustrations and captions to better engage their audience.
In Week 9, students began drafting a letter to their future Year 4 teacher. They discussed what information would be helpful for a new teacher to know and reviewed the key parts of a letter, including the greeting, the body and the closing. Students used their planning template to organise ideas into clear paragraphs and revised their writing before publishing a neat and easy to read final copy.

Inquiry In Inquiry, Year 3 students have been eagerly preparing for Volunteer Week. Working in teams, they used their planning templates and checklists to organise the activities they will run for others in the school. Students showed wonderful creativity and enthusiasm, coming up with ideas such as a Comic Club, Drawing Club, Loom Band Sisters, a Kindness Club and many more.
Throughout the week, students created posters, prepared announcements and rehearsed short scripts to share their ideas with other classes. Students also used this time to visit different classrooms to promote their clubs and invite others to take part. Their teamwork, confidence and willingness to contribute have been fantastic to see as they get ready for Volunteer Week.
