Reading

In Reading, students continued to strengthen their prediction skills. They looked at the front covers of books to consider what the story might be about and what could happen next. Students also learned about text to self connections and how they can be made. They learned that a text-to-self connection is made when something in a story reminds them of an experience from their own lives.

Maths

In Maths, students have been exploring the topic of Measurement. They have learned how to use blocks to measure the length of different classroom objects and have been comparing which items are longer or shorter. Students have also practised ordering containers by their capacity from least to most, using hands-on activities to pour, fill and compare. These practical lessons are helping students develop a strong understanding of how measurement is used in everyday life, and they have been very engaged and excited to share their discoveries.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students are learning about healthy eating by creating their own posters to identify “everyday foods” and “sometimes foods.” Using supermarket flyers, they carefully cut out different food items and sort them into the correct category on their poster. Students then decorate their work with bright colours and creative designs to make their posters eye-catching and meaningful. Through this hands-on activity, students are developing a deeper understanding of healthy choices, recognising which foods help their bodies grow and which foods should be enjoyed only occasionally. They have been highly engaged and proud of their work.

They practiced these strategies by role-playing different scenarios and working together to find effective solutions. Students also revisited techniques for managing stress during challenging situations to help them stay calm and relaxed. As the end of year Christmas concert is approaching, students also continued practicing their song and dance choreography for Jingle Bell Rock.
