Performing Arts

Foundation
This fortnight in Performing Arts, Foundation students have been getting ready for their very first school concert by practising singing and actions together. They have been learning to use their clear “singing voices,” remember the words and do simple actions at the same time as their peers, all while starting and stopping together like a team. Students have rehearsed standing in their performance spots, facing the audience and freezing in a strong finishing pose. They also had a turn performing for their peers as a “practice audience” and watched parts of their rehearsal on the screen so they could see their big voices, clear actions and happy, confident faces becoming performance ready.
Daniella (FC): “I really liked to dance!”
Julia (FC): “I liked to perform in front of the grade 3s.”
Oscar (FC): “I liked practising.”
Selim (FC): “I liked copying the moves on the tv.”
Amelia (FC): “I liked to sing altogether!”
Year 1-2
This fortnight in Performing Arts, Year 1–2 students have been exploring singing, movement and performance skills as they prepare for their upcoming concert item. They have been learning to sing with clear voices, add simple actions that show the meaning of the lyrics and keep in time with their group. Students also practised using stage space safely, standing in their performance positions and entering and exiting with confidence. Classes performed for an informal audience of peers to help build confidence and students gave simple feedback on clear actions, loud singing and staying together. We have begun filming rehearsals so students can watch themselves back and reflect on their timing and expression. Students have also started creating small props and accessories to support their concert performance.
Indy (2A): “I like the dancing as it’s not fast.”
Lucas (2A): “I like singing and dancing for our Christmas song.”
Georgia (2A): “I liked to practise our Christmas song.”
Raff (2A): “I liked drawing a snowman and dancing.”
Zoe (2A): “My favourite part is putting on a hat when we are dancing to our Christmas song.”
Year 3-4
This fortnight in Performing Arts, Year 3–4 students have been working hard to combine their singing and choreography for the upcoming concert, focusing on timing, confidence and performing as a unified group. They practised using stage space effectively, forming clear lines and shapes and entering and exiting with purpose. Students rehearsed in small groups and also performed for an informal audience, taking turns to present their item to each other and offer simple, constructive feedback. We filmed rehearsals so students could watch their performances back and reflect on their movement, spacing, synchronisation and vocal projection. Classes have also begun creating simple accessories to support the theme of their item, adding creativity and excitement to their performance.
Sadie (3C): “I liked how everyone was trying their best.”
Georgeuo (3C): “We were going around and doing knee, knee, clap and spin with our partner. It was challenging.”
Christopher (3C): “”I liked how we were doing all the same actions and it was really fun.”
Deepti (3C): “In the part where we were doing the spin with our partner, I kept doing the wrong hand but I got the hang of it.”
Eleen (3C): “I liked how we learned a lot of movements for our Christmas dance. We did well!”
Year 5-6
This fortnight in Performing Arts, Year 5–6 students have been busy preparing for the school concert by refining their singing, movement and transitions to create a smooth and expressive performance. They practised using correct stage positions, working in clear formations and entering and exiting the stage with confidence and purpose. Students have worked hard to create original choreography for most items and we have been filming rehearsals so they can watch their performances back, reflect on their timing, energy and synchronisation to make improvements. They also trialled their performance in front of a small audience, using the opportunity to practise confidence, adjust spacing and make improvements based on peer observation. They also began designing simple accessories to enhance the visual impact of their item, bringing creativity to their upcoming performance.
George (6B): “Today, we were learning 6A’s half of the dance.”
Akman (6B): “The session was fun as we got to also practise our Graduation dance.”
Maya (6B): “It was interesting to see 6A’s dance moves and learn their choreography."
Widad (6B): “It was fun practising with the class.”
Levi (6B): “I was helping to coach a dance move.”
